NextGen engages thinkers, visionaries, and doers. Formed to create a space for the City of West Hollywood’s 40-and-under population, NextGen is a community committed to creating new, non-traditional ways to engage in a myriad of issues that impact West Hollywood.
[but have little to no representation in local government]
The NextGen community makes up more than half of West Hollywood’s population, but has not typically been engaged in the City’s decision-making process. NextGen community members are disproportionately underrepresented on City Commissions, Advisory Boards, and other forms of governmental leadership. In 2016, the City Council launched efforts to increase engagement with the City’s 40-and-under population. After conducting an extensive survey, the City discovered more than 80 percent of participants wanted to get involved with the City, but in a non-traditional way. No more five-hour City Council meetings, and evening Commission and Advisory Board meetings that seem impossible to get to during the work week.
Beginning Spring 2017, the City of West Hollywood held a NextGen kick-off event. There was an event production team, DJ, photo-booth and engagement lab. The kick-off was a success, and since then, the City of West Hollywood has been working to develop creative engagement opportunities to our NextGen community. Whether you prefer lively events, panel discussions, or social gatherings, NextGen has something for you. Connect with us! Become a part of NextGen and help shape our 21st century West Hollywood.
